“Me time”. What’s that?

I’m not talking candles and bubble baths here. I’m talking about real life, everyday, little things that help you to have more time throughout the day so you can stop the burnout madness, already! The stats aren’t looking pretty. As much as 95% of all doc visits are stress-related. A common complaint I hear is “I have no work-life balance” or “there’s never any time for me”.

Are you ready for a little tough love?

Listen, missy. Your circumstances didn’t just fall into your lap. You had a part in it. The sooner you step up and take ownership the sooner you will have this time you so fervently seek.

So, let’s get to it, shall we?

Here are 3 things you can do starting today to carve out more “me time”:

*Warning: do not proceed unless you, Sally, solemnly swear to start with only ONE thing from this day forward. Do you swear? Good!

1. Wake up 30 minutes earlier. Or even 15. This means you are going to bed earlier, too. Your new mantra: “Early to bed. Early to rise. These are the secrets of the healthy, wealthy, and wise.” The first hour you are awake is your “hour of power”- the time at which you are at your greatest potential. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS….before the rooster crows and everything goes from silence to nucking futs. This is not supposed to be easy. Whatever you do, don’t give up and do not make excuses! Set a goal to do this for at least 21 days, ideally one month.

2. Do a short breath meditation. Every hour on the hour. Set an alert on your phone. If this is too often to start, do so every three hours. ONE MINUTE to start. This will bring you back to the present moment so you can cultivate mindfulness and be able to tap into some clarity. Heck, maybe you will even remember the power of saying “no”, too. Who knows! Remember, you’re doing this FOR YOU. Yes, that’s a thing.

3. Complete a Balance Wheel. If you’ve done one of these recently, great! Time to pull it out and revisit it. If this is new to you, I highly recommend it as a tool to help you get clear on your priorities so that you can figure out how to carve out “me time”. If what you are currently doing is not getting you the results you are looking for, it’s time to do something different. Click here for a PDF version of the wheel. Print that sucker off. Have some fun with this, will ya! This is your life we are talking about!

Congratulations! By finishing this post, you just took a step toward living lighter! Cool, huh? That means you either really want this change or you had nothing better to do. I’ll assume the former. Now, get out there, take those baby steps, and OWN YOUR LIFE! I got your back.

Yours in self-care,

Kendra
